Day... 13? - A Ficitional Book

So I decided to write this post about the last book that I read.  The last book I read was Waking the Witch by Kelley Armstrong, which just so happens to be the latest book in my FAVOURITE series!

The rear cover of the book says:
"The orphaned daughter of a sorcerer and a half-demon, Savannah is a terrifyingly powerful young witch who has never been able to resist the chance to throw her magical weight around. But at 21 she knows she needs to grow up and prove to her guardians, Paige and Lucas, that she can be a responsible member of their supernatural detective agency. So she jumps at the chance to fly solo, investigating the mysterious deaths of three young women in a nearby factory town as a favour to one of the agency’s associates. At first glance, the murders look garden-variety human, but on closer inspection signs point to otherworldly stakes.

Soon Savannah is in over her head. She’s run off the road and nearly killed, haunted by a mystery stalker, and freaked out when the brother of one of the dead women is murdered when he tries to investigate the crime. To complicate things, something weird is happening to her powers. Pitted against shamans, demons, a voodoo-inflected cult and garden-variety goons, Savannah has to fight to ensure her first case isn’t her last. And she also has to ask for help, perhaps the hardest lesson she’s ever had to learn."

Okay so the one thing that bothers me about this description is the way they describe Savannah's lineage as being half-demon and sorcerer, but her Mom (Eve Levine) was a witch and a half-demon, so THAT is why she's a witch.  This book was great.  I am so happy to learn more about Savannah, who we meet as a child in book 2 (I don't want to say any more for fear of ruining it for anyone who wants to read the series.)  Savannah has grown to be her own person and a lot more well adjusted than one would think considering her history.

Some have said that this book is a little shallow, but I don't think so.  What I can say about it is that it really feels like what I call a "bridge book" a book that is really a set up to the next book, which I can't wait to read!  But I can understand how those that don't know much about the series would feel a little lost and may in turn interpret the book differently.

The thing that I love about this series is how it is so character-driven.  You really get a good feel for all of the main characters and since the narrator changes from book to book you get a good feel for how each character interpreted or felt about each event.  It is a fun series and I just love it.
